"Gingerbread House Contest"
on Saturday!

Oh, my goodness!
Travis Olivera, Patty Louise and I had the honor of judging -
it wasn't easy!
(I don't think I'm supposed to tell the names of the winners, yet, so I won't even hint!)

Patty Louise, who is nearly always the one holding the camera, contemplates the design and structure of Bill and Sue Getman's entry ......

.......... before evaluating the variety of cookies and candies and cereals used in Karen Fox's construction.

Icicles hung from the "Frosted Mini-wheat" tiled roof of this entry by the Williams Family Gingerbread Builders!
Judging was based on APPEARANCE and although contest rules specified that all ingredients must be edible, the judges were not allowed to taste!

Someone else who rarely gets his picture taken is photographer Jody Hildreth! He was out for his afternoon run and I asked how he was doing in re: his goal of running 1,000 miles in 2010. He grinned! Sounds like he's going to make it!

MORE PICTURES WORTH TAKING

On Osborne Avenue

There was no one actually in the park at the Masons' Christmas Tree Sale when I went by, this afternoon, but a lot of people must have been doing their tree-shopping there because the supply is dwindling! Don't wait too long!

Snowmobile trails are marked, and although there was one set of tracks in a field next to Osborn Avenue, the official word is: "In the Southern Tier of New York State, most of the Mohawk Valley, the snowmobile trails do not open until after hunting season closes, December 21." We'll be seeing and hearing more sleds later this week!

Winter Solstice
From the Farmers Almanac: •" The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon – December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun."
