Oh, my ..........................

Wonderful "Tapestry" concert, this afternoon, but now .......

It's 9:00 Saturday evening and something's going to happen!

From the O-D: A winter weather advisory for freezing rain is in effect for the area from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.

Some snow is possible Sunday night as colder air changes the rain back to snow.

Another round of heavy lake effect snow will become possible across portions of Central New York starting Monday and could last through Thursday."

And, from WKTV: "A winter storm will likely impact the area Sunday into Monday, followed by another shot of cold weather early next week. Right now it appears that a brief period of freezing rain is possible Sunday morning. Any ice should turn to plain rain by Sunday mid morning to early afternoon. Rain continues into Sunday night before colder air moves into Central NY. Snow showers and wind will follow the storm on Monday."

That weather will not, however, spoil Santa's plans to visitwith children (of all ages!) at the old Depot in Deansboro on Sunday afternoon. Be there to welcome him!

If you take any pictures, send them to me!

Thursday morning, early.

17 degrees and crispy-clear.

At 5:30, there are NO closings or cancellations
on either the WKTV or the O-D websites.

GARBAGE DAY

Weather report from the Observer-Dispatch: "Up to 8 inches of snow has fallen in parts of southern Oneida County and Madison County as of early this morning. A snow warning remains in effect until noon today, according to the National Weather Service. Only a few minor accidents were reported overnight, and National Grid's website showed no households were without power. Check back to uticaod.com this morning for any school closings or delays in opening."

Weather forecast from Channel 10, YNN: "We will get a bit of a break on Thursday with any lake effect snow showers tapering to flurries by midday and afternoon. It will be the coldest day of the season with highs only in the low 20s. Scattered snow showers will spread in later Friday with temperatures climbing back to around 30. Saturday will be fairly quiet with highs in the mid 30s. Although still early, there is the potential for a large impacting storm system to work towards us Sunday into Sunday night. Stay tuned on that one over the next few days."

This answers my question!

Re: Snowmobile Trails: "In the Southern Tier of New York State, most of the Mohawk Valley, the snowmobile trails do not open until after hunting season closes, December 21."
"One snowmobile club President says riders should stay off those trails until they do open or they could be compromising future agreements." (see more on WKTV.)

Thank you!

Even MORE "things to do" this weekend:
there's a long list in yesterday's Mid-York Weekly!

And for the very latest in the controversy regarding actions proposed by or attributed to the WCS Board of Education, please see this week's issue of

The Waterville Times!

I'm not going to get involved or make any comments, but I applaud Ms. Louise for making apparently unlimited newspaper space available for those who want everyone to know their opinions.

Do we really need to know how snowflakes are formed or that "maybe two snowflakes ARE alike?" LifeScience Magazine explains.

Certainly not ............ but it's a much safer subject!

Have a very good weekend, everyone!

Wednesday afternoon (for Thursday)

ç
It's 23 degrees at 5:30 p.m., and still snowing!

The total must be nearing a 2' accumulation in 2 days!

Tomorrow is
GARBAGE DAY.

Here is The WeatherChannel's forecast for tomorrow.

**************

The blogger has concluded that the intensity and longevity of this storm has been caused NOT so much by continual winds passing over the open waters of the Great Lakes during freezing weather and carrying the resulting snow to Waterville as by the fact that many, MANY boys and girls from the Waterville Central School District went to bed on Tuesday night with their pajamas on either backwards or "wrong side out" in hopes that there would be a "snow day!"

Will this system of meteorological manipulation work two days in a row?

We'll see!

Uptown, early this morning.

"Big Orange" was out with the Recyclables wagon and Karl had contributions for Carl!

His snow-shoveling already done, Stan Sambora had walked to the Post Office.

Have you been to the Post Office to see the windows?

from the O-D as of 6:06 AM

A lake effect snow band continues to stretch across southern Oneida and Madison counties this morning.

As the accumulation builds, schools in the region are facing a third day of choices about safety and scheduling.

Here is a current list of closings and delays.

CLOSED

Hamilton Central schools
Madison Central schools
Waterville Central schools

WEATHER

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton. Areas in the warning area include Utica, Oneida, Rome, Verona and Waterville.

A thin, but dense, band of snow is expected to continue to cause traffic issues as it drops 4 to 8 inches of snow during the day today.

... more to come.

I'm having trouble finding a GOOD map of road conditions. Here's one, but if someone knows of a better website, would you please let me know? Thanks! This map doesn't show any road closings, but if I were planning on going to New Hartford, this morning, it wouldn't be by way of Paris!

No snow falling, and there's a hugely bright star in the SSE.

Tuesday afternoon for Wednesday morning

WRAP-UP

Just like the Good Old Days! Poor visibility in the usual spots..........

............... poor traction in others!

(Route 12B between Deansboro and Clinton was treacherous, this morning!)

But I'll be saying, "It's so pretty!" for several weeks ..............

.... always trying to find new and different way of making YOU think it's pretty, too!

*************

Just noticed:

Lots of new "inflatables" on Babbott Avenue ..........

............... and Christmas decorations in the ground floor windows of Mr. Philip Eastman's building on East Main Street!

TOMORROW IS RECYCLABLES DAY!

(The WeatherChannel)

Tomorrow's forecast from WKTV: "**Lake effect snow warnings continue for Oneida, Madison, Chenango, Lewis, Montgomery, and Southern Herkimer County until 6AM tomorrow morning**

Light snow will continue along a persistent northwesterly flow today, tonight, and Wednesday. Accumulations today will be on the lighter side, between 1-3" across most areas. Refer to the snowfall map for your specific location.

Cold weather continues through Thursday, with temperatures dropping into the single digits by Friday morning.

A bit of a warmup heading into the weekend. The next storm system will likely arrive Sunday into Monday.

FOR THE RECORD

The "gift" that the Village Board received at their regularly scheduled meeting, last night, was a picture of the new Memorial Bandstand and a card from the Memorial Bandstand Committee:

"The Memorial Bandstand Committee
is pleased to take this opportunity to present to
the Village of Waterville, New York,
the permanent gift of
The Memorial Bandstand
with all of our best wishes for a
Merry Christmas
and many Happy and Prosperous New Years."

Waterville, New York December 6, 2010

"The Memorial Bandstand was constructed as a symbol of gratitude to all those who created our village and community."

"The structure was designed in April, 2005, by:
Carol and Stanley Sambora, Jean B. Davis, Wendy Sexton, Joseph and S. Kelly Falk,
Jennifer Dobmeier Dapson, Donald Brown, II, Susannah Quayle, Louis C. Langone
Betsey and Larry Youngs, Dale Meszler, Mabel Bushee, and Phiippa Brown.

Plans were drawn by T. Karram Design & Construction Consultants of Waterville.

Michael Tower of Waterville was the general contractor.

Construction was made possible through the cooperation of the Clifford J. Fulmer Post of the American Legion, the Waterville Historical Society and the Village of Waterville as well as by the generosity of hundreds of individuals, families and businesses and organizations. Special grants were awarded the Committee by the Edward S. Barton Trust and the Eastman Kodak Company."

Funding and construction was overseen by the Memorial Bandstand Committee: Dale Meszler, Mabel Bushee and Philippa Brown."

In 1876 James J. Guernsey, the Editor of The Waterville Times, wrote that, “There is talk of erecting a Bandstand in the Park. Let it not end in talk!”

I hope that Patty Louise will finish the story in next week's edition of The Waterville Times!

*********

I promised Diane Cornish that I would "put it right on the blog!" (And so I shall.......)
This afternoon I dropped off several copies of two different views of the Bandstand in winter at Merri-Rose Florist. Both are night scenes: one from Park Place, showing the monument, and the other from within the park - my favorite. The prints, on super-thick, glossy stock, are each 11" high and 14" wide and will fit standard mats and/or frames.

More when it happens!

Have a nice evening, everyone.

Monday evening for Tuesday morning

ç

A blog reader has suggested that I post in the evening so those who follow the blog are warned a day ahead of time when something is going to happen.

That makes sense, doesn't it?

(And it also means that I can sleep later in the morning!
I like that!)

SOooooooooo........

TOMORROW/TUESDAY IS
BIG TRASH DAY!

**************************

The big news on Saturday was that

'The Trees are in the Park!"

And, in no time at all, they were leaving, again!

It had snowed just enough to make it look Christmasy in the village and, out in the country, Troy Bishop's cows were grazing in the snow.

There was plenty more snow this morning! Tom Stiles, from Stockwell, said he thought we got more than 8", but that didn't faze Gallaghers' cattle at all.

Corn field on Fuess-Cleary Road.

The Waterville DPW's "Bobcat" was out early, this morning, finding the sidewalk along Route 12 south of the village.

About fifteen minutes later, it was at the corner of Babbott and W. Bacon.

Babbott Avenue.

West Main Street

The village street are very clean ........

........... and townships have kept tricky intersections, like this at Bogan and Sanger Hill Roads, well plowed and sanded.

Residential driveways were getting plenty of attention this afternoon.

Snow Shovels flew on Sanger and Osborn Avenues .......

........ and a fellow with a snowblower grinned at me from his driveway on Sanger Hill Road. Why not! He was nearly through working!

READY FOR MORE!

South of the village, on Route 12B, a flag warns snowplow drivers that there's a mailbox there.

Do you think the pole is tall enough?

*************************

The Monday night forecast from WKTV: "The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for Madison and Chenango County and a lake effect snow advisory for Oneida, Chenango, Otsego, Schoharie and Southern Herkimer Counties until 6PM Monday. *

Many areas already picking up 3"-7" of snow from the lake bands last night through this afternoon. Expect an additional 1-3" of snow from this afternoon through this evening. There will be more snow on your evening commute across Central New York. The bands will pick up in intensity a bit tonight, bringing several more inches of snow to the area. Refer to the snowfall map for your specific location.

Unseasonably cold temperatures stay with us through the week."
